About the New Year's One Day

The course is a loop around Cottonwood Lake in Hellyer Park, run on an asphalt path that stays flat the whole way around. You come back past the same point again and again, so you can run through the night or step off whenever you have had enough. The format is timed rather than distance-based, which draws a different crowd than a typical road race.

Check-in opens race morning at the Buena Vista Pavilion in Hellyer Park. Plan to arrive a bit early to get your bib before your event starts. Parking requires exact change at the gate, so have cash ready before you pull in.

Finish-Time Stats

Going by the 2025 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

Common Questions About the New Year's One Day

Will I finish last at the New Year's One Day?

Almost certainly not. Half the 30 Miles field finished slower than 5:49:45, and the last recorded finisher came in around 5:59:34, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the New Year's One Day a good first 30 Miles?

It is a small race (46 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 30 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the New Year's One Day?

The 30 Miles winner ran 24:31 while the median finisher took 5:49:45. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
