About the 22nd Annual Muster 5K Beach Challenge

The course runs out and back along the beach, starting and finishing on the grounds of the Navy SEAL Museum, where the predecessors to today's SEALs once trained. Running on sand makes it a genuine physical test, and the setting gives the whole morning a weight that a road race does not have. Patriotic gear is encouraged, and the atmosphere leans into the history underfoot.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at the Museum, with race-morning pickup available as well. On race day, parking is on the west side of A-one-A rather than in the Museum lot. Dogs are not permitted on the beach or on Museum grounds, with the exception of documented service animals.

Common Questions About the 22nd Annual Muster 5K Beach Challenge

Will I finish last at the 22nd Annual Muster 5K Beach Challenge?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 47:45, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:36:15, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 22nd Annual Muster 5K Beach Challenge a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 271 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 22nd Annual Muster 5K Beach Challenge?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 25:27 while the median finisher took 47:45. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
