About the Musicians of Steel 5K Run/Walk
The course runs out and back along the Allegheny River on the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, starting from the Millvale Riverfront Pavilion. The path is paved and flat, with the river on one side and views toward the North Shore. Before the gun goes off, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra musicians play a short concert at the start, and live music continues along the route.
The start area is at a riverfront pavilion, which gives the morning an open, unhurried feel. Prizes go to top overall finishers and age group winners, with awards that include recordings and local gift cards. All entry fees support a fund that buys instruments and provides transportation for local students to attend symphony concerts.
