About the MSU Tower Guard Shamrock 5k run, walk, roll!

The course starts and finishes at a campus courtyard, looping through the Michigan State University grounds. It is open to runners, walkers, and those who roll, so the field is genuinely mixed in pace and mobility. Beaumont Tower is part of the scenery, and tours of it run during and after the race.

Packet pickup is on race morning at the start location. Parking on campus is complimentary, with several nearby lots and a parking ramp serving the area. After you finish, there is food and drinks, and raffle prizes from local businesses round out the post-race scene.

Common Questions About the MSU Tower Guard Shamrock 5k run, walk, roll!

Will I finish last at the MSU Tower Guard Shamrock 5k run, walk, roll!?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 39:13, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:03:10, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the MSU Tower Guard Shamrock 5k run, walk, roll! a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 425 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the MSU Tower Guard Shamrock 5k run, walk, roll!?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 17:39 while the median finisher took 39:13. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
