About the McLean Rotary's Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk

The course winds through McLean neighborhoods, starting and finishing at a high school stadium. It has the feel of a holiday morning run through residential streets, and the jingle bells attached to runners' shoes at packet pickup mean you hear the field as much as you see it. Post-race food and drink are set up near the finish, along with local vendors.

Packet pickup runs the day before at a local running store in Falls Church, with race-morning pickup available near the start line at the stadium. The start area is the school's stadium and track, so parking and gathering space are straightforward.

Common Questions About the McLean Rotary's Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the McLean Rotary's Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:12, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:44, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the McLean Rotary's Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk a good first 5K?

It is a small race (64 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the McLean Rotary's Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 19:15 while the median finisher took 35:12. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
