About the Mardi Gras Madness - Houston

The course runs through Oyster Creek Park, and the organizers lean hard into the Mardi Gras theme the whole way. Aid stations double as mini street parties, with volunteers tossing beads as you pass. Before the start, there is a costume contest where the crowd picks the winner by cheering loudest. A DJ keeps things moving at the finish tent, and awards are handed out as runners come in.

Packet pickup happens the morning of the race, wrapping up before the start. The kids dash goes off just before the main wave, so families with young runners have a reason to arrive early. Post-race, the rally tent has snacks and music, and the awards ceremony folds right into the party rather than pulling everyone away from it.

Common Questions About the Mardi Gras Madness - Houston

Will I finish last at the Mardi Gras Madness - Houston?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.11 Miles field finished slower than 40:09, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:10:32, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Mardi Gras Madness - Houston a good first 3.11 Miles?

A field of 220 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.11 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Mardi Gras Madness - Houston?

The 3.11 Miles winner ran 19:00 while the median finisher took 40:09. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
