About This Club

Houston Harriers have been running this city since 1975, and they operate like a club that takes training seriously - coached weekly workouts on tracks, hills, and trails across Houston, with Head Coach Jon Warren leading the sessions. Despite the competitive label, they say runners of all paces and backgrounds are welcome, so this is not a club you need to qualify for.

  • Access to structured weekly workouts with Coach Warren
  • Saturday long run routes and weekly member email
  • Priority access to Harriers events and races
  • Tracksmith club apparel discounts
  • HARRA Spring and Fall Series club competition

Who It Suits

If you want structure - actual coaching, planned workouts with a purpose, and eventually club competition through the HARRA Spring and Fall Series - this setup is built for that. If you are looking for a casual, drop-in jog with no expectations, the Wednesday social run with coffee afterward is probably the lowest-pressure entry point, but the club as a whole is oriented toward people who want to train with intention.

What a Run With Them Is Like

Your week with the Harriers breaks into three distinct sessions: Tuesday evenings are structured workouts, either hills on Buffalo Bayou Trail from June through October or track sessions at Rice University the rest of the year; Wednesday mornings start at 5:30 AM with a social run followed by coffee and breakfast at Active Passion; Saturday mornings at Memorial Park are long runs, ranging from 5 to 7 miles on the shorter end or 10 to 16 miles when you want to go long.

The terrain shifts between paved urban trails, bayou paths, and the track, so you will be moving through real Houston rather than running loops around a parking lot.

Your First Run

For Saturday, routes are posted in the club's Facebook Group beforehand, so check there before you show up at Memorial Park at 6:00 AM - knowing the route in advance takes some of the uncertainty out of your first visit.

If you are joining a Tuesday track session, they specifically suggest arriving early to warm up before the workout begins. Showing up alone is genuinely fine here; a club running three days a week with coached workouts tends to have a regular crew, and walking in as a new face is just part of how the membership grows.
