About the 48th Annual Lone Star Stampede

The Lone Star Stampede is put on by a University of Texas alumni chapter, and the proceeds go toward scholarships for students heading to UT Austin. The course offers several distance options, from a short kids dash up through a half marathon, so families often show up with runners spread across age groups. Post-race there is an award ceremony on site.

The race is organized by an established nonprofit alumni group, which gives it a consistent structure year to year. Professional photographers are out on the course, so you do not need to ask a stranger to grab a photo. Free group training runs are organized in the weeks leading up to race day, which is a useful perk if you are building toward the distance.

Common Questions About the 48th Annual Lone Star Stampede

Will I finish last at the 48th Annual Lone Star Stampede?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:45, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:19:31, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 48th Annual Lone Star Stampede a good first 5K?

It is a small race (152 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 48th Annual Lone Star Stampede?

The 5K winner ran 18:25 while the median finisher took 35:45. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the 48th Annual Lone Star Stampede?

Join a local run club. Fleet Feet Sugar Land Run Club and others in Sugar Land welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
