About the Loaves and Fishes and Veterans Services of the Carolinas Run for Recovery

The course runs down historic Front Street, past old homes that line the waterfront. The draw out there is real: wild banker ponies are often visible across the water while you run. It is a road race through a genuinely picturesque small-town stretch, and the cause behind it, recovery services and veteran support, gives the morning a particular weight.

Packet pickup the evening before is at a local church, with race-morning pickup also available. The start area and awards ceremony are at John Newton Park, just across Front Street from a local restaurant landmark. After the race, breakfast is served at a nearby church a short walk away.

Common Questions About the Loaves and Fishes and Veterans Services of the Carolinas Run for Recovery

Will I finish last at the Loaves and Fishes and Veterans Services of the Carolinas Run for Recovery?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 34:04, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:00:18, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Loaves and Fishes and Veterans Services of the Carolinas Run for Recovery a good first 5K?

It is a small race (58 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Loaves and Fishes and Veterans Services of the Carolinas Run for Recovery?

The 5K winner ran 17:39 while the median finisher took 34:04. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
