About the Lexington Equine Medical Hunter Pace & 5K At The Park

The course runs on turf and cross-country terrain at the Kentucky Horse Park, the same ground used for equine hunter pace events. The footing is grass and natural surface rather than pavement, so expect soft ground and open stretches. There are costume and tailgate awards alongside the standard age group results, which gives the morning a different character than a typical road 5K.

Packet pickup is available race morning, so there is no need to come out the day before. Parking requires following a specific route through the park: enter at the main gate, follow Cigar Lane, then turn onto Nina Bonnie Lane and bear left toward the barns, where a gravel road behind them serves as the lot. Food and music are on site after the race.

Common Questions About the Lexington Equine Medical Hunter Pace & 5K At The Park

Will I finish last at the Lexington Equine Medical Hunter Pace & 5K At The Park?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 33:57, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:19, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Lexington Equine Medical Hunter Pace & 5K At The Park a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (58 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Lexington Equine Medical Hunter Pace & 5K At The Park?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 21:04 while the median finisher took 33:57. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
