About the 5th Annual Latinas Leading Tomorrow (LLT) Reach for the Stars 5K Run/Walk

The race starts and finishes at Bluemont Park, a green stretch in Arlington with enough open space to accommodate strollers and walkers alongside runners. The course is a straightforward out-and-back through the park, and the funds raised go directly to mentorship programs for Latina students. After the race, the group gathers at the park's picnic area for a post-race party with raffle prizes and winner announcements.

Parking at the park is limited, so the organizers suggest carpooling and arriving early. Check-in and pre-race activities happen before the warm-up, which leads into the start. Prize tickets are available at checkout, with raffle items ranging from restaurant gift cards to sports tickets, and top finishers in both adult and youth categories receive gift cards from a running retailer.

Common Questions About the 5th Annual Latinas Leading Tomorrow (LLT) Reach for the Stars 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the 5th Annual Latinas Leading Tomorrow (LLT) Reach for the Stars 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 37:21, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:11:08, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 5th Annual Latinas Leading Tomorrow (LLT) Reach for the Stars 5K Run/Walk a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (172 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 5th Annual Latinas Leading Tomorrow (LLT) Reach for the Stars 5K Run/Walk?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 17:34 while the median finisher took 37:21. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the 5th Annual Latinas Leading Tomorrow (LLT) Reach for the Stars 5K Run/Walk?

Join a local run club. Virginia Happy Trails Running Club, Arlington Running Club, Arlington Guys (20s & 30s) Running Group and others in Arlington welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
