About This Club

Capital Area Runners is a coached training club based in Arlington, Virginia, built for runners who are chasing a goal, not just logging miles. They run out of Washington-Liberty High School and offer everything from weekend long runs under a basic membership to a full Distance Training Program with interval and tempo workouts on weekday mornings.

Who It Suits

This club is a solid fit if you are training toward a race or a time goal and want coaching and structure behind your runs, not just a casual group jog. If you are looking for a low-key social run with no commitment, the membership requirement and coached format here probably are not the right match.

What a Run With Them Is Like

Weekend runs go out Saturday and Sunday mornings - 7:00 AM from May through October, and 8:00 AM from November through April, so the start time shifts with the season.

If you join the Distance Training Program, Tuesday and Friday workouts start at 6:30 AM and include structured interval and tempo sessions with a customized training plan built for you. They describe themselves as oriented toward motivated, competitive-minded runners, so expect the group to be pushing toward something specific.

Your First Run

Show up to the Washington-Liberty High School track in Arlington before your first Saturday or Sunday run - that is the meeting area. Membership is required, so you will need to sort that out before you arrive rather than paying at the door.

The individual membership is $50 a year and gets you into the weekend runs; if you want the weekday coached workouts, the Distance Training Program is a separate cost. They say the club suits motivated runners, so come ready to work, but that does not mean you have to be fast on day one.
