About the Lake Placid Classic Half Marathon, 10K & 5K

The race is based at the North Elba Horse Showgrounds, and the surrounding terrain sets the tone. It is not flat. Two moderate hills break up the route, one early and one near the end, with runnable ground in between. The setting is largely natural, and the high peaks visible from the course make the scenery hard to ignore.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at the showgrounds, with a second window early on race morning. Parking at the venue closes before the start and does not reopen until the last runners have cleared the start area, so arriving with plenty of time to spare matters. Off-site parking nearby is limited.

Common Questions About the Lake Placid Classic Half Marathon, 10K & 5K

Will I finish last at the Lake Placid Classic Half Marathon, 10K & 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:02:48, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:08:32, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Lake Placid Classic Half Marathon, 10K & 5K a good first 13.1 Miles?

A field of 273 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Lake Placid Classic Half Marathon, 10K & 5K?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:16:49 while the median finisher took 2:02:48. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
