About the June Freedom Run 5K

The race runs through the PrairieFire Campus in Overland Park, starting early in the morning before the heat sets in. The surrounding area fills up afterward for a Juneteenth celebration, so the finish line drops you right into a parade, a petting zoo, face painting, and vendors.

Packet pickup happens at two local fitness studios on separate days before the race, with any remaining packets brought to the start on race morning. Check-in opens at the course before the gun goes off, and late registration is also available on site.

Common Questions About the June Freedom Run 5K

Will I finish last at the June Freedom Run 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:28, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:07:39, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the June Freedom Run 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (75 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the June Freedom Run 5K?

The 5K winner ran 18:27 while the median finisher took 35:28. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
