About the Joltin' Joe 5K

The course runs out and back on the OKC river trails, starting near the Wheeler Ferris Wheel. Underfoot it is paved trail, flat the whole way, and the turnaround is clearly marked with volunteers on hand. The race honors a local runner lost to a distracted driver, and that context gives the morning a purpose that goes beyond finishing time.

Packet pickup runs the day before at Red Coyote Classen Curve, with race-day pickup available at the Wheeler Ferris Wheel before the start. After you finish, there is a free Ferris Wheel ride waiting, which is a nice way to spend the afternoon on the riverfront.

Common Questions About the Joltin' Joe 5K

Will I finish last at the Joltin' Joe 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 32:16, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:49, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Joltin' Joe 5K a good first 5K?

A field of 249 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Joltin' Joe 5K?

The 5K winner ran 16:30 while the median finisher took 32:16. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
