About the Ireland's Four Courts Four Miler

The race starts and finishes at Ireland's Four Courts, a pub in Arlington, and the course is built around one hill on Wilson Boulevard. You run down it first, which feels generous, then turn around and climb back up to the finish. There is no tricking yourself into forgetting what is coming, and the hill earns its reputation.

The finish line drops you right back at the pub, where a post-race beverage is waiting. The start area is the restaurant itself, so there is a natural gathering spot before the gun goes off.

Common Questions About the Ireland's Four Courts Four Miler

Will I finish last at the Ireland's Four Courts Four Miler?

Almost certainly not. Half the 4 Miles field finished slower than 40:04, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:09:20, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Ireland's Four Courts Four Miler a good first 4 Miles?

With 1,145 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 4 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Ireland's Four Courts Four Miler?

The 4 Miles winner ran 20:54 while the median finisher took 40:04. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the Ireland's Four Courts Four Miler?

Join a local run club. Virginia Happy Trails Running Club, Arlington Running Club, Arlington Guys (20s & 30s) Running Group and others in Arlington welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
