About the In It For The Long Run

The course at John Hunt Park runs a rubberized loop that is easy on the legs, designed for long efforts where surface feel starts to matter. Distance options range from a short evening road race up through a full day of running, and teams are welcome for the longer timed events. Personal tents are allowed, so the venue fills with gear and people resting or moving.

Packet pickup is the evening before at Fleet Feet Huntsville, with no race-morning option, so that errand needs to happen then. Food trucks are on site throughout the day, and the aid station keeps things stocked with fruit, sandwiches, gels, and hot food at various points. Overnight camping is permitted, which shapes the atmosphere of the longer events.

Common Questions About the In It For The Long Run

Will I finish last at the In It For The Long Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the race field finished slower than 39:01, and the last recorded finisher came in around 4:10:47, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the In It For The Long Run a good first race?

It is a small race (52 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first race, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the In It For The Long Run?

The race winner ran 19:52 while the median finisher took 39:01. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
