About the IHR Poker Run

The course rolls around the base of Iroquois Park, starting and finishing near the amphitheater. It is not flat; the hills are real, though the surroundings are green and away from traffic. The race is donation-based, with an unwrapped toy or a cash contribution standing in for a registration fee, which makes the atmosphere a little different from a standard entry event.

Packet pickup opens well before the start, on-site near the amphitheater. Parking is in the amphitheater and playground lots. After the run, there is a poker hand draw and door prizes. Water is available at the finish.

Common Questions About the IHR Poker Run

Will I finish last at the IHR Poker Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 34:10, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:16:01, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the IHR Poker Run a good first 5K?

A field of 391 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the IHR Poker Run?

The 5K winner ran 18:13 while the median finisher took 34:10. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
