About the Huntsville Half Marathon

The course runs through South Huntsville on roads that stay mostly flat the whole way. It opens with a short neighborhood loop back to the church, then stretches out through the southeast part of the city and picks up a stretch of the Aldridge Creek Greenway before turning back. Aid stations are spaced out well, stocked with water, Powerade, Gu, and bananas.

Packet pickup runs the day before at Fleet Feet Huntsville, with a backup window on race morning at the church. Parking at the start is limited, so carpooling is worth planning ahead. Early fall weather here can swing anywhere from warm and sunny to cold and wet, so dress in layers you can shed.

Common Questions About the Huntsville Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the Huntsville Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:13:54, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:31:06, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Huntsville Half Marathon a good first 13.1 Miles?

A field of 465 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Huntsville Half Marathon?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:17:42 while the median finisher took 2:13:54. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
