About the Hero Hustle 5K

The Hero Hustle runs through Maumee in honor of organ, eye, and tissue donors, and the cause gives the morning a weight that a generic road race does not have. The course is a standard road distance, and the field tends to include people who are there for the mission as much as the miles.

Packet pickup happens at Life Connection of Ohio on West Dussel Drive in the days before the race, with drive-through style pickup off Ford Street. Race-morning pickup is also available at the Dana World Headquarters Campus in Maumee, where the start area is based.

Common Questions About the Hero Hustle 5K

Will I finish last at the Hero Hustle 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 50:31, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:19:48, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Hero Hustle 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 685 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Hero Hustle 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:27 while the median finisher took 50:31. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
