About the Helping Heroes Veterans Day 10K

The course runs point-to-point through several neighborhoods, starting at a middle school and rolling through the eastern side of the city before climbing to a hilltop overlook. That ascent is the defining stretch, and the route then drops back down into the city, finishing near the organization's own headquarters.

Packet pickup and registration happen in the school parking lot on race morning before the start. Downtown parking is the practical choice, with street parking, a community college lot, and an arena garage all nearby. Buses shuttle runners from downtown to the start; there are no return buses from the school after the race, so plan accordingly. The awards ceremony takes place near the finish.

Common Questions About the Helping Heroes Veterans Day 10K

Will I finish last at the Helping Heroes Veterans Day 10K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 10K field finished slower than 1:02:52, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:51:24, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Helping Heroes Veterans Day 10K a good first 10K?

It is a small race (165 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 10K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Helping Heroes Veterans Day 10K?

The 10K winner ran 35:53 while the median finisher took 1:02:52. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
