About the Hanukkah Hot Cocoa Run 5k/1k/1mile

The course starts and finishes at the Tucson JCC's sculpture garden, heading out and back along the Rillito River Path on flat road. Several distance options mean the morning draws a wide range of runners, from young kids doing the short loop to adults racing the full route. The river path setting keeps things open and easy to navigate.

Packet pickup runs the afternoon before at the Tucson JCC, with race-morning check-in available as well. Post-race, there is hot chocolate and sufganiyot, the jelly donuts traditional to Hanukkah, waiting at the finish. Raffle prizes are drawn on race morning, and top finishers in each distance and age division receive mugs or tumblers.

Common Questions About the Hanukkah Hot Cocoa Run 5k/1k/1mile

Will I finish last at the Hanukkah Hot Cocoa Run 5k/1k/1mile?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:42, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:50, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Hanukkah Hot Cocoa Run 5k/1k/1mile a good first 5K?

A field of 239 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Hanukkah Hot Cocoa Run 5k/1k/1mile?

The 5K winner ran 18:15 while the median finisher took 33:42. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
