The race runs through the Carmel Christkindlmarkt, a German-style holiday market, so the course has a seasonal backdrop that most winter races do not. The surroundings are specific: market stalls, the smell of mulled wine, and the atmosphere of a European-style holiday market woven into the route and the finish area.
Warm Glühwein, the spiced mulled wine the race is named for, is part of the post-race spread. There are also refreshments beyond that, and overall and age-group awards for those racing competitively.
