About the Galveston Marathon & Half Marathon
The course runs along the Galveston Seawall with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the city on the other. It is flat pavement the whole way, and the half marathon covers the route once while the full goes around again. The out-and-back shape means you see the same scenery twice, which some runners find meditative and others find honest.
Packet pickup happens the day before at a running shop on the island, with race-morning pickup at Stewart Beach, which is also the start area. Dogs are welcome to run alongside their owners; the seawall has open drop-offs on one side, so stroller users are advised to stay aware. There is a post-race gathering with food after the finish.
