About the Galveston Island Turkey Trot

The course runs out and back along the Galveston Seawall, with the Gulf on one side the whole way. It is flat road with open sky above and water views throughout. Costumes are welcome, and the post-race gathering takes place at Menard Park behind the recreation center where the race begins and ends.

Packet pickup happens the evening before the race at a local running store in Galveston. Race-morning pickup is also available at Menard Park before the start. The store can hand out packets for other members of your group, so you do not all need to show up separately.

Common Questions About the Galveston Island Turkey Trot

Will I finish last at the Galveston Island Turkey Trot?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 34:32, and the last recorded finisher came in around 59:55, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Galveston Island Turkey Trot a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 662 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Galveston Island Turkey Trot?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 0:02 while the median finisher took 34:32. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
