About the Freebird 5K

The course runs along the Legacy Trail at Coldstream Park, a paved trail known for being flat and quick. The race honors Charles O'Connell, a Lexington public safety figure who spent his career across local police, dispatch, and fire departments. Proceeds go to the Lexington Public Safety Museum, so there is a clear sense of purpose behind the morning.

Packet pickup happens race morning at the park, which keeps logistics simple. A photographer is on course, and a finish-line photo contest runs alongside the timed race. Food and a social team competition round out the post-race scene.
