About the Foster5K + Kids Dash

The race takes place at Martial Cottle Park in San Jose, on a USATF-certified course. It benefits Child Advocates of Silicon Valley and their Court Appointed Special Advocate program, which supports foster youth. A kids dash runs alongside the main event, with a shorter sprint for younger children and a longer one for older kids.

Race-morning bib pickup is available, though the organizers encourage picking up beforehand at a packet pickup location to keep things moving. Arrival a bit before the start is recommended to allow time to get settled.

Common Questions About the Foster5K + Kids Dash

Will I finish last at the Foster5K + Kids Dash?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 36:29, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:29:40, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Foster5K + Kids Dash a good first 5K?

A field of 283 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Foster5K + Kids Dash?

The 5K winner ran 17:35 while the median finisher took 36:29. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
