About the Fields of Gold 50K Marathon Half Marathon 12 Hour 1 Hour 10K 5K
The course runs through Shaffer Bend Recreation Area on rolling terrain that mixes open meadow trails, wooded valleys, and lakeside paths. The race is timed for peak fall color, when native grasses go golden and the trees are turning, so the surroundings do most of the talking. Several distance options are available, from a short family-friendly run up through a full endurance challenge that runs into the night.
Post-race festivities round out the day, and the event benefits a youth running nonprofit that works to connect kids with the sport. Headlamps and a backup light are required for anyone running after dark, which is worth planning for if you are taking on the longer efforts.
