About the Family Fun Turkey Run

The race is hosted by a high school cross country program and starts and finishes at the school. The course is a run-walk on Thanksgiving morning, so the field is a real mix of serious runners and families out for a holiday stretch. Proceeds go directly back to the cross country team.

Race-morning registration and packet pickup both open well before the gun, so there is no need to scramble. Refreshments are out before and after the start, which is welcome on a cold Thanksgiving morning.

Common Questions About the Family Fun Turkey Run

Will I finish last at the Family Fun Turkey Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 4 Miles field finished slower than 40:47, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:15:40, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Family Fun Turkey Run a good first 4 Miles?

It is a small race (191 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 4 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Family Fun Turkey Run?

The 4 Miles winner ran 22:27 while the median finisher took 40:47. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
