About the Edwardsville Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run!
The course runs through the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, so the surroundings are open and campus-green rather than street-and-storefront. It is a Thanksgiving morning race, which means the crowd skews toward families and out-of-town visitors folded into the holiday, and there is a kids fun run alongside the main event.
The start and finish are anchored at the student fitness center parking area, which keeps everything in one spot. An awards ceremony follows inside, out of the autumn cold. The race benefits a local nonprofit that helps district families in financial crisis, so the entry fee is doing something beyond covering the event.
