About the Dukes 5k & Fun Run

The course starts and finishes on the high school track, with the main distance looping out through the surrounding streets before returning to the stadium. The shorter distance stays on the track the whole time. Both go off the same morning, with the fun run starting once the main field has cleared the stadium. Awards are presented afterward in the field house.

The race has a costume theme, heroes and villains, so expect a fair number of capes in the crowd. Registration is available on race morning. The start area is the Wellington Dukes football stadium, which gives the whole thing an athletics-meet feel rather than a typical road race setup.

Common Questions About the Dukes 5k & Fun Run

Will I finish last at the Dukes 5k & Fun Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 30:53, and the last recorded finisher came in around 56:16, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Dukes 5k & Fun Run a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (40 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Dukes 5k & Fun Run?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 19:48 while the median finisher took 30:53. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
