About the Drill Expo Contractor 5K Fun Run

This race is organized by the National Drilling Association and draws contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, and other industry professionals alongside any runner who wants to join. The proceeds go toward an NDA scholarship fund for the next generation of people entering the drilling trade, so the field has a purpose behind it beyond the miles.

The event is built around the association's expo, so the crowd at the start line skews heavily toward people who spent the rest of the week talking shop at booths and seminars. That gives the morning a different texture than a typical road race, with a lot of first-time runners mixed in with the regulars.

Common Questions About the Drill Expo Contractor 5K Fun Run

Will I finish last at the Drill Expo Contractor 5K Fun Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 26:41, and the last recorded finisher came in around 46:50, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Drill Expo Contractor 5K Fun Run a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (35 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Drill Expo Contractor 5K Fun Run?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 15:26 while the median finisher took 26:41. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
