About the Dragon Dash 5K Run/Walk

The course circles Central Park on asphalt, flat the whole way with no significant hills. Strollers and wagons are welcome, though dogs and wheeled equipment are not allowed on the course during the event. Waves go off a few minutes apart, so the start is spread out rather than one big crush.

Packet pickup is available the evening before at Isabella Bird Community School, and again race morning at the park before the start. Coffee and breakfast food trucks open at the same time as morning pickup. Parking around the park is free and public. The event area closes around midday, leaving time after the race to hang around the expo.

Common Questions About the Dragon Dash 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Dragon Dash 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 44:55, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:16:00, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Dragon Dash 5K Run/Walk a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 318 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Dragon Dash 5K Run/Walk?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 19:11 while the median finisher took 44:55. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the Dragon Dash 5K Run/Walk?

Join a local run club. Rocky Mountain Road Runners, Colorado Harriers, Revolution Running and others in Denver welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
