About the Derby Street Mile
The Derby Street Mile runs along the waterfront in Salem, with the start in front of a marine fisheries building at a harbor marina. The course is a straight mile, so there is no looping back or second-guessing where you are. Faster runners head out first, then families fill in behind at their own pace.
Registration opens at the start line on race morning, so there is no separate packet pickup to plan around. The race goes off in the early evening, which keeps the summer heat manageable and gives the waterfront setting a different quality of light.
