About the Colleen De Reuck XC Classic

The race is a cross-country meet held at Harlow Platts Community Park, a neighborhood park in south Boulder. It honors a Boulder-based distance runner who competed at the world level, and each edition also recognizes a different local Olympian. Several race lengths run back to back through the morning, covering everything from a short kids' course to a full cross-country distance, all on park terrain.

The park is in a residential part of the city, so parking is typically street-level in the surrounding neighborhood. Races go off in waves by age group, starting with the youngest runners and building to the open field. The schedule is tight and moves quickly, so arriving early is worth it.

Common Questions About the Colleen De Reuck XC Classic

Will I finish last at the Colleen De Reuck XC Classic?

Almost certainly not. Half the 1K field finished slower than 6:25, and the last recorded finisher came in around 11:37, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Colleen De Reuck XC Classic a good first 1K?

It is a small race (72 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 1K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Colleen De Reuck XC Classic?

The 1K winner ran 5:06 while the median finisher took 6:25. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
