About the Cleveland Kurentovanje's 8th Annual Kurent Dash

The Kurent Dash is tied to the Kurentovanje festival, a Slovenian carnival tradition celebrated in Cleveland. The course runs through the neighborhood, and the finish brings you back to the Slovenian National Home on St. Clair Avenue, where the post-race party is already getting going when the first runners come through.

Registration and packet pickup both happen inside the Slovenian National Home on race morning before the start. After the race, the party inside offers a complimentary drink, with choices ranging from beer to Slivo to hot chocolate. A parade follows later in the morning, and most runners stick around for it.

Common Questions About the Cleveland Kurentovanje's 8th Annual Kurent Dash

Will I finish last at the Cleveland Kurentovanje's 8th Annual Kurent Dash?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:42, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:03:39, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Cleveland Kurentovanje's 8th Annual Kurent Dash a good first 5K?

A field of 357 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Cleveland Kurentovanje's 8th Annual Kurent Dash?

The 5K winner ran 17:37 while the median finisher took 33:42. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
