About the City of Westlake Community Run

The course starts and finishes on the grounds of the Westlake Recreation Center, running through the surrounding city streets. The route is open to timed runners, speed walkers, and those doing the shorter untimed walk, so the field is mixed in pace and purpose. It connects to a larger Safety and Wellness Fair happening the same morning, which gives the finish area more going on than most local races.

Packet pickup and registration open early on race morning at the Recreation Center. After finishing, there is fruit and refreshments near the DJ booth, and a pancake breakfast runs through mid-morning for registered participants. Raffle prize winners are announced during breakfast, and an inflatable is set up on the grounds for kids.

Common Questions About the City of Westlake Community Run

Will I finish last at the City of Westlake Community Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 30:27, and the last recorded finisher came in around 58:44, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the City of Westlake Community Run a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (127 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the City of Westlake Community Run?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 17:49 while the median finisher took 30:27. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
