About the Cheers to New Years 5K (Indianapolis)

The course is flat and runs along the Monon Trail, which keeps things simple and fast. The route has no water stops, so bring your own if you need it. The crowd tends to be a mix of people chasing a fast start to their year and people just happy to be out running on New Year's Day.

Packet pickup is race morning only, outside Big Lug Canteen on Eighty-Sixth Street. Parking is spread across a few nearby lots on both sides of the Monon, including spaces at a Total Wine and a Whole Foods, so you have options depending on which side you come from.

Common Questions About the Cheers to New Years 5K (Indianapolis)

Will I finish last at the Cheers to New Years 5K (Indianapolis)?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 36:49, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:10:15, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Cheers to New Years 5K (Indianapolis) a good first 5K?

A field of 377 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Cheers to New Years 5K (Indianapolis)?

The 5K winner ran 20:10 while the median finisher took 36:49. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
