About the Catalina Island Marathon, 10K, 5K
The marathon runs point-to-point across Catalina Island on dirt fire roads and trail, starting on the far side of the island and finishing in Avalon. The terrain rolls through the interior, with ocean views opening up across both sides of the ridge. The shorter distances start and finish in Avalon, keeping them closer to town.
Marathon runners catch a boat from Avalon to the start in Two Harbors, which makes the morning feel different from a mainland race. Packet pickup runs the evening before at spots in both towns. The race is cupless, so bring your own hydration. Aid stations stock water, Coke, bananas, pretzels, and gels.
