About the Capital City Dia de Los Muertos 5k Run/Walk/Roll

The race runs through Granger Meadows Park and leans into the Día de los Muertos holiday in a visible way. Participants are encouraged to show up in face paint, flowers, and traditional attire, so the start line tends to look different from most fall races in the area. Separate distances for adults and a shorter kids course keep it a genuinely multigenerational morning.

Packet pickup happens the evening before at the Footprints of Michigan office on Saint Joseph Street, which keeps race-morning logistics lighter. The course is professionally timed, with results posted live as runners finish.

Common Questions About the Capital City Dia de Los Muertos 5k Run/Walk/Roll

Will I finish last at the Capital City Dia de Los Muertos 5k Run/Walk/Roll?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 36:34, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:36, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Capital City Dia de Los Muertos 5k Run/Walk/Roll a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (110 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Capital City Dia de Los Muertos 5k Run/Walk/Roll?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:17 while the median finisher took 36:34. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
