About the Black Cat Chase 3K
This is a Halloween night race through downtown Frankfort, starting and finishing at the Old Capitol grounds. The route is a condensed loop that stays close to the historic core, avoiding the main capitol circuit. Costumes are common, a marching band plays along the course, and Thriller Parade dancers are part of the scene. It runs after dark, so the atmosphere is distinctly different from a weekend morning race.
A costume parade happens near the Old Capitol building before the gun goes off, with judges scoring for awards. The race benefits the local YMCA's giving campaign, and donations can be added during registration. Teams are welcome, with group awards available for squads that meet a minimum size.

Finish-Time Stats
Going by the 2025 results, this is a decent-sized field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

The Black Cat Chase 3K has been held every year since at least 2015. That is as far back as RunSignup's records for this race go, so it may well be older.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Jul 27, 2026.
