About the Beer City Half™ Alameda

The course runs the coast at Alameda Point, a former naval air station with wide open runways and water views in most directions. The surroundings feel nothing like a city park, and the flat, exposed terrain makes for a straightforward run with plenty of sky overhead.

The race is part of a longer festival day centered on local beer, so the finish area has more going on than most road races. The post-race scene is built around Alameda's brewing scene, and the event is staged at Radium Runway, right on the point.

Common Questions About the Beer City Half™ Alameda

Will I finish last at the Beer City Half™ Alameda?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 34:31, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:06:23, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Beer City Half™ Alameda a good first 5K?

It is a small race (195 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Beer City Half™ Alameda?

The 5K winner ran 16:09 while the median finisher took 34:31. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
