The race takes place at Lake Bastrop, where loblolly pines line dirt trails that wind along the water's edge. The terrain is fast for trail running, with open sky overhead and the lake visible through the trees. The weekend covers everything from a short run to a backyard ultra format where you keep going until you can't, one loop at a time, through day and into night.

The backyard ultra starts at the basecamp on the Gideon Loop. Runners must carry night gear once darkness falls, and a crew area sits close to the starting corral. The Loblolly course serves as a redemption option for those who miss a loop cutoff on the main event, so the day does not end the moment things go sideways.
