About the Amigo Man 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk

The course runs through McKelligon Canyon, a rocky canyon on the edge of the mountains at the city's outskirts. The terrain is natural and rugged rather than a flat road loop, and the canyon walls give the whole thing a setting you do not expect from a city race. Pets are welcome on the course, which gives the field a character all its own.

Packet pickup runs across several days before the race at a visitor center downtown, with no race-morning option, so plan ahead. After the race, the canyon amphitheater fills out with food trucks and vendors, and there is a yoga session on the grounds.

Common Questions About the Amigo Man 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk

Will I finish last at the Amigo Man 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 33:07, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:12:39, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Amigo Man 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (129 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Amigo Man 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:51 while the median finisher took 33:07. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
