About the Alex's 5K Run/Walk & Kids' K

Alex's 5K is held at Avondale House, the school Alex Jamrich attended. The race honors his life and raises money for autism charities and services. It started the year after he passed, and every dollar of net proceeds goes to autism-based organizations. There is also a kids' distance and a virtual option for those running from elsewhere.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at Fleet Feet on Greenbriar Drive, with race-morning pickup available as well. The start area is at Avondale House on O'Meara Drive, and the schedule staggers the kids' start before the main event gets underway.

Common Questions About the Alex's 5K Run/Walk & Kids' K

Will I finish last at the Alex's 5K Run/Walk & Kids' K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:44, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:09:26, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Alex's 5K Run/Walk & Kids' K a good first 5K?

A field of 202 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Alex's 5K Run/Walk & Kids' K?

The 5K winner ran 15:55 while the median finisher took 33:44. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the Alex's 5K Run/Walk & Kids' K?

Join a local run club. Houston Striders, In Flight Running, Houston Harriers and others in Houston welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
