AJ Howard Memorial 5K

Belton, TX

Opens Nov 21, 2026Annual since at least 2020

About the AJ Howard Memorial 5K

The course runs out and back along the Belton Hike & Bike Trail, starting from an open field at Liberty Park. It is a straightforward route with no surprises, the kind of path where you can settle into a pace early. The race benefits the Belton High School Band Program in memory of a former member, which gives the morning a specific, grounded purpose.

Packet pickup happens at Liberty Park the evening before the race. Overflow parking is available in the lot at Crossroads Church nearby. Food trucks are on site, and Black Rifle Coffee is out at the finish area, so there is reason to linger after you cross.

Common Questions About the AJ Howard Memorial 5K

Will I finish last at the AJ Howard Memorial 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:27, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:00:10, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the AJ Howard Memorial 5K a good first 5K?

A field of 241 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the AJ Howard Memorial 5K?

The 5K winner ran 16:33 while the median finisher took 33:27. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
