About the 34th Anniversary Hook O'Malley 1 Mile Firecracker Race Run/Walk Against Cancer
This race runs through Scranton in memory of a local boxing trainer who spent his life working with youth and died of cancer. Proceeds go to the county chapter of the American Cancer Society, and that purpose sits at the center of the morning. There is a walker category alongside the runners, and a separate award goes to the top finishing boxer.
Registration opens race morning and runs until shortly before the start, so you do not need to sort out packet pickup the night before. Awards cover a wide spread of age groups, from young children through the oldest competitors, plus overall honors for both male and female runners and walkers.
