About the 33rd DC Mark Carpenter Falcon 5K & Freddy's Luau Island Lap

The course runs on and around a high school campus, looping what the race calls Freddy's Island on the track and surrounding grounds. It is open to all paces and ages, with a children's tot trot and a shorter fun run going off before the main event. The terrain is flat campus pavement and track surface.

Packet pickup opens race morning under a tent on the football field, and on-site registration is available there as well. Parking is on campus. After the final race, results are announced on the track, and there are hot dogs, chips, family games, and a KONA Ice truck on the concourse.

Common Questions About the 33rd DC Mark Carpenter Falcon 5K & Freddy's Luau Island Lap

Will I finish last at the 33rd DC Mark Carpenter Falcon 5K & Freddy's Luau Island Lap?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 27:29, and the last recorded finisher came in around 57:24, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 33rd DC Mark Carpenter Falcon 5K & Freddy's Luau Island Lap a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (165 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 33rd DC Mark Carpenter Falcon 5K & Freddy's Luau Island Lap?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 15:55 while the median finisher took 27:29. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
