About This Club

LA Leggers is a marathon training club based in Santa Monica that has been running since 1989, meeting every Saturday morning along the coast between Marina del Rey and North Santa Monica. The core season runs August through March and builds toward the LA Marathon, starting at just 2 miles and working up to 20-plus. Walkers are a genuine part of the program, not an afterthought.

Who It Suits

This club is built for people working toward the LA Marathon, whether that is your first marathon or your tenth, and whether you plan to run it or walk it. If you want unstructured social miles or a drop-in track workout, this is probably not your match - membership costs $95 for the season and the program is structured around a specific race-day goal.

What a Run With Them Is Like

Your Saturday distance depends on where you are in the season - it starts at 2 miles and builds gradually, with the longer weeks eventually reaching 20 miles. Shorter runs (under 10 miles) start at 7:30 AM; once you hit 10 miles and over, the start time moves to 6:45 AM for runners and 6:15 AM for walkers, so check your distance before you set your alarm.

The routes run along the Pacific coast, mostly on beach paths between Marina del Rey and North Santa Monica. You run with a pace group, not as a loose pack, so you will not be stuck guessing whether you are going too fast or too slow.

PaceMembers are placed into pace groups based on a timed trial mile run or walk at a comfortable pace; the club says to look for pace signs in the grass. The season starts with 2 miles and builds gradually.

Your First Run

The 2026-27 season opens August 1, 2026, and they hold a new member orientation where you run or walk a comfortable trial mile - that time places you in the right pace group for the season. Show up to 1450 Ocean Avenue near the Santa Monica Pier and look for pace group signs in the grass.

On under-10-mile days there are also training talks at the Tongva Park amphitheater at 1615 Ocean Ave starting at 6:45 AM. If you miss orientation you can still show up for a Saturday training run - they say you can join even without doing the trial first.
