Common Questions About Berkeley Running Club
Do I need to be fast to run with Berkeley Running Club?
No. Berkeley Running Club is set up for new runners and walking is fine and nobody gets left behind. On pace: groups split by preferred speed and distance. All paces welcome, from walkers to speed runners. Beginner trail run at leisurely pace with gentle hills.
Run your own pace format; runners not expected to stay together. If you are worried about holding the group up, that is the most common worry new members have, and it is usually the first thing to go away.
Is it awkward to show up to Berkeley Running Club on your own?
Most people turn up alone the first time, and a group run is one of the easier places to do that, because you are all moving in the same direction and nobody has to hold a conversation face to face. Afterwards: post-run coffee at Peet's Coffee, 1776 Fourth St, Berkeley, CA after Tuesday marina runs.
Do I need to sign up before my first run with Berkeley Running Club?
No membership is required, so you can turn up to a run and see how you get on before committing to anything. There is nothing to pay either. It is still worth checking their latest post before you go, in case a start time or meeting spot has moved.
Where this comes from: Club details come from each club’s own channels (their site, Meetup, Strava and social posts) and are checked by hand. Group runs move, so confirm the meeting spot on the club’s latest post before you head out. Last updated July 2026.
